Reviving Your 3D Printing Pen: A Step-by-Step Guide

Has your 3D printing pen run out of filament, or are you looking to switch colors or materials? Knowing how to properly remove any remaining plastics from the pen's path is crucial for a seamless transition. Here's a simple guide to help you navigate this process effectively:

Checking for Residual Plastic

Before making any changes, it's essential to ensure that there is no remaining filament in the pen's system. Here's how you can do it:

  • If you still see plastic emerging from the back of the pen, initiate the reversal process by double-clicking either the fast or slow button. The light bar will flash to indicate that the plastic is rehearsing.
  • Wait for the light to stop flashing, signaling that the reversal is complete. Then, gently pull out the plastic.

Confirming Filament Length

If you're unable to spot the filament from the pen's rear, you can determine the remaining amount by following these steps:

  1. Insert a new filament strand and observe how far it advances into the pen.
  2. If the new filament goes in more than a quarter of the way, the remaining plastic is too short to reverse. In such cases, you must extrude the rest of the plastic to clear the path effectively.

Reversing the Plastic Strand

In scenarios where you need to reverse the plastic for reuse, ensure to trim the ends before proceeding. Here's how you can efficiently reverse the plastic:

  1. After trimming the filament ends, reinsert it into the pen.
  2. Initiate the reversal process by double-clicking on the fast or slow button.
  3. Wait for the light to stop flashing, indicating that the reversal is complete.
  4. Gently pull out the plastic to finish the process.

By following these steps diligently, you can seamlessly switch colors or materials in your 3D printing pen without any hassle.
