Are you interested in delving into video game development using tools like Unity, Logic Pro X, and Blender? If so, you've come to the right place! In this blog post, we will be embarking on a journey to master Unity's animation system with the help of Miximo, a free Adobe platform. Whether you're a novice looking to learn the ropes or a seasoned developer seeking to enhance your skills, join me as we explore the intricacies of Unity's animation system step by step.
Before we delve into the nitty-gritty details of Unity's animation system, let's first understand what Miximo is. Miximo is a completely free Adobe platform that offers a diverse array of character models and hundreds of animations. Signing up for Miximo grants you access to a treasure trove of resources essential for learning and prototyping in the realm of game development.
Upon logging into Miximo, you will be greeted with two main tabs: Characters and Animations. Start by browsing the Characters tab to select a character model that suits your preferences. The X and Y-Bot character models are recommended for their versatility and generic appeal. Once you've chosen your character, switch to the Animations tab to explore a multitude of animation options available.
For our project, we will focus on selecting three fundamental animations: an idle animation, a walk animation, and a run animation. Feel free to customize your choices based on your project requirements. Simply click on the desired animation and hit download to proceed further.
When downloading animations from Miximo, you'll encounter four essential drop-down menus: Format, Skin, Frames Per Second, and Keyframe Reduction. Here's a brief overview of each setting:
With your Miximo character models and animations downloaded, it's time to import them into Unity. Create a structured folder system within Unity to keep your assets organized and easily accessible. Simply drag and drop the downloaded FBX files into the Assets tab or import them via the context menu.
In the upcoming video, we will delve deeper into Unity's animation system, exploring animation states, retargeting animations, and blending animations seamlessly. Stay tuned for more insightful tutorials on mastering Unity's animation capabilities!
