Are you struggling to achieve motion blur in your Redshift renders? Discover the key checkbox you've been overlooking. Let's delve into the solution together.
In a recent animation project, I encountered challenges with implementing motion blur effectively. Despite enabling motion blur in the render settings, the desired effect was not reflecting in the final output. This became evident when the character, Homer, was falling off a couch within a mural scene.
The absence of motion blur was especially noticeable during fast movements, where crucial details like the character's body deformations were not blurred as expected. Even though certain elements like eyeballs and teeth exhibited some blur, the overall effect was far from satisfactory.
The missing piece of the puzzle lies in a lesser-known setting within the Redshift render settings – Deformation Blur. This setting, found under the Motion Blur section in the Basic tab, is essential for scenarios involving skinned characters and deformations due to underlying rigs and skeletons.
By activating the Deformation Blur checkbox, the render engine can accurately capture and apply motion blur to the character's deformations, resulting in a more realistic and visually appealing outcome.
Upon enabling Deformation Blur, the difference in the rendered output is remarkable. The character's movements now exhibit the desired motion blur, encapsulating the essence of speed and dynamism intended by the animator.
